How Can Therapy Help You?
Hello and welcome. You might be on this page because you are beginning the process of seeking therapy. This is not any easy choice to make so give yourself a little congrats for taking one step forward. If you have never been to therapy, this process and the whole idea of therapy can seem mysterious. It can seem a little scary. Every part of you may be shouting to just forget about it. I'd like to invite you to pause for a moment and let yourself explore what therapy is and what it can do for you.
Therapy is a tool that can be used throughout your life to help you develop a greater awareness of yourself, overcome challenging problems, and support you through emotionally difficult times. If you're reading this, you're probably facing something a little difficult. It could be anxiety about school, feeling depressed, facing uncertainty in your career, and just an underlying feeling of concern about the state of the world right now. Perhaps you're grieving the loss of someone close to you. Maybe you're letting go of a relationship or job.
This is where therapy can help. Therapy uses validated modalities to help you process your experience in a meaningful and tangible way. During therapy you'll come up with a few goals. A good way to think about the goals would like to have is to imagine what your life would be like if you could overcome a problem. What does your ideal life look like? How would act and feel differently? What would be different about you or your circumstances? These are all things you can explore in therapy to take you from where you are now to where you want to be.
Like most things in life, therapy is not a straight-forward process. Things may feel uncomfortable at first. If you continue to show up for yourself you'll find that you'll have the tools to be more self-confident, self-aware, and more at peace. As you move through life things may come up again and therapy will be therapy to help you get through those difficult times.
